ABOUT

Sidney Waerts is a visual artist whose practice navigates the delicate interplay between light, nature, and reflection. After years of drawing inspiration from the pulse and intensity of the city, his focus has shifted toward the grounding, meditative rhythms of the natural world.

Influenced by the Japanese tradition of Zen painting (Sumi-e), Waerts works primarily with Indian ink to create fluid, organic forms that evoke cycles of growth, transformation, and renewal. Alongside ink, he employs charcoal and paint across surfaces such as linen and wood, using their tactile qualities to explore depth, texture, and movement, echoing the shifting elements of earth, sky, and water.

His compositions often emerge through an intuitive, unforced process. Marks and brushstrokes flow with spontaneity, opening moments of stillness and contemplation. Through this quiet language of gesture and form, Waerts invites us to pause, observe, and reconnect with the subtle beauty of the natural world.
